General / Re: can we really make money at this????

thanks pfm1011...
I don't even know if this is the right way to reply to you...we'll see if it posts.  You've given me an informative and seemingly objective answer.....gracios.  I'm not looking for the big bucks (well, of course I'd love them...but let's get real), but it's encouraging to note that most people stick to lower priced properties and actually make a bit of profit.  And it does sound like great fun!

General / can we really make money at this????
« on: January 24, 2008, 01:24:19 AM »
Hi folks,
I'm new...although I've been watching and thinking about this for awhile.  i've noticed that there appears to be some very experienced people out there and so I have a few questions I hope that you will answer.  First, as my subject line says:  Can people really make money at this?  Is it just something you do as a hobby, or is it a "living"?  If your goal is to make $, and I assume it is, do you hope for a quick turnover and big cash, or do you look for small but steady income potential?  Do most of you sit on properties until the time is right to sell, or sell them as soon as you get them?  I hope this isn't too much to ask...but I would really like to know.  I love risk...seems to be in my blood...and making extra cash might be the only way I'll be sending my 3 kids to a decent post-sec. school....so this might be just the thing I'm looking for but I don't want to venture too far without a better understanding about how it's really done.  Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.   ::)

Property Information / Re: Trent Hills properties
« on: January 24, 2008, 01:15:01 AM »
Hi Dale,
I'm totally new to this, so I can give you NO advice, but I can tell you what I found out about the Trent Hills properties.  they were developed in the early '60's before the planning act....they haven't been developed because the municipality has a 'no building permit' order on them due to a private road.  Seems one person owns the access road and won't turn it over to the municipality, so they don't want to issue building permits on any of the lots.  Seems the town is involved in a lawsuit with someone who bought a farm on a private road or something...anyway, they've been burned so they're being cautious.  I was told there are no guarantees they'll ever be buildable.  Hope that helps.

Him me again....don't you hate newbies?  Anyway, I'm just looking at the listings on this site, and I don't see the listings for 2 properties in Haliburton...but they were listed with OntarioTaxSales.ca....any ideas why that would be?

Questions and Answers / OntarioTaxSales.ca
« on: June 07, 2007, 08:47:06 PM »
Hi, I am also new.  About 4 months ago I subscribed to OntarioTaxSales.ca on the Internet.  They send out weekly updates on properties that are for sale, sometimes do title searches, provide packages with assessed value, etc.  It was a free service then.  However, they are now asking for a $20 registration fee and $5/month to stay a member.  My question is:  Is anyone familiar with this company, does anyone use this company, and it is worth the cost?  Can I get the same information from other sources?  The only place I've gotten info about upcoming sales so far, is from them......
Thanks a lot,
